Gulshan-e-Iqbal is Karachi's flat heartland: block after block of 1990s and 2000s apartment buildings around the University Road corridor, housing a huge share of the city's middle-class families. The flat-specific issues are plumbing stacks shared with neighbours, society permissions and water timing — Karachi flats live on a water schedule, and tiling and curing must be planned around it.
